Migraine & Googlie Eyes Links

Home with a migraine - at the point where I feel ok if I don't move around. Yeah, the pain is still there in my left temple, but I'd rather read than sit here feeling miserable. I've already spent 2 days out of the past 7 in a darkened room.

Did some research on migraine - can't think what brought that to mind? - and came across my funny pupil thing:

Anisocoria: uneven sized pupils. There's even intermittent anisocoria which appears to be mostly linked to migraine. Or drug use. In drug use, the pupil gets really huge, whereas in physiological anisocoria it's usually a difference of 1-2mm. Which would be me.

A rather technical article, by a neurological opthalmologist, does contain some groovy pictures (trawl down to the end of the page and there's 2 photos of a woman who's eyes do the same thing as mine do.) Don't panic, I don't seem to have any of the gruesome things that might cause anisocoria.

The same website has a rather good article on the state of play with migraine and migraine research.

Also had a look at the trigeminal nerve, as my headache includes face pain. Face pain can be related to sinusitis, but I don't feel congested.

I have had Trigeminal Neuralgia in the past, it felt like someone stuck a carving knife through my head, but luckily it only lasted a few seconds as I couldn't breathe for the pain. Scared the ***p out of my clients when I fell across the desk - my legs were paralysed - in the middle of a meeting and I couldn't speak for several seconds. (Some people will do anything for attention, eh?)

This is more low grade aching and tingling etc. I have had stabs of pain into my left earlobe and into my teeth. Mind you, inflammation of the main artery around the temple - which is likely with a migraine - can press on the trigeminal nerve. Sounds plausible to me.

I started investigating this as I've been finding lately that my head getting cold can start me on a migraine.

Oh yeah, one of the articles I read (I've lost it now) suggests that beta-blockers can trigger migraine in some migraineurs. Which made me feel paranoid for a while as I have been religiously taking my Proponalol for the past...10 days. Hmmm. Or it could be that I haven't taken them enough so I'm not getting the protection.
